Faculty and Staff Members Recognized At Darton State College's Honor Program
ALBANY - Several faculty and staff members were recently recognized at Darton State College’s Honors Program. The Honors Program is held each year to recognize not only students, but also the College’s faculty and staff for their hard work and dedication throughout the year.
Teacher of the Year Award went to Brad Young, assistant professor of mathematics. Adjunct Teacher of the Year was given to Dawn Hart, part-time instructor of accounting. The Online Teaching Award was awarded to Dr. Anita Underwood, online instructor of English.
Gail Apperson, senior administrative assistant in the Humanities Division, received the Outstanding Staff Award. The Advising Award went to Tracy Suber, assistant dean of nursing.
The College Service Award went to Shani Clark, assistant professor of communications and honors program coordinator. The Community Service Award was awarded to Nancy Mitchell, instructor of nursing, and Dr. Michael May, professor of chemistry.
In the Spotlight

Claire Dyal, of Albany, has been named the 2013 New Century Scholar for Georgia. Dyal will graduate this Friday, May 3, with an Associate of Science degree in psychology.
Dyal is one of 52 to receive this honor. One student from each of the 50 states was selected, as well as one from Canada and the Federated State of Micronesia. Dyal received a $2,000 scholarship and a plaque, which was presented to her at the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) Convention held in San Francisco, CA last month.
