DSC Receives Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful Awards
Darton State College was recently honored at the 26th annual Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful (KADB) volunteer luncheon held on January 22, 2015 at the Albany Civic Center. Darton’s broadcast journalism program and its channel 19 television station were both awarded the Communications Award for their environmental communications efforts. Students - under the leadership of Brian Perkins, broadcast journalism program coordinator and Larry Smith, TV operations manager - produced and aired original public service announcements, which targeted litter abatement and KADB’s Flint River cleanup efforts.

“Every journey starts with a step. An academic journey is no different; we all have great things in our lives: great stories, great trips, and great sayings. All of the great things in history started somewhere with something. Every great moment has a beginning. Darton is that beginning for me.” This was the response Luke Griffin gave when asked why he chose to attend Darton State College this fall. As an Albany local he has grown up in the shadow of Darton, and, therefore; always envisioned himself beginning his journey into adulthood here.
