Darton State College Wins
African-American Male Initiative Grant
Darton State has received $10,000 in funding support from the University System of Georgia’s African-American Male Initiative (AAMI) Project for FY 2015. Darton matched the grant award with an additional $10,000 and all of the funding will be used to address retention, persistence, and completion barriers among African-American male students attending the College.
Darton’s AAMI Project will provide targeted interventions that will include but are not limited to early alert academic monitoring, peer and community mentoring, tutoring services, and special orientations and workshops.
In the Spotlight
“Every journey starts with a step. An academic journey is no different; we all have great things in our lives: great stories, great trips, and great sayings. All of the great things in history started somewhere with something. Every great moment has a beginning. Darton is that beginning for me.” This was the response Luke Griffin gave when asked why he chose to attend Darton State College this fall. As an Albany local he has grown up in the shadow of Darton, and, therefore; always envisioned himself beginning his journey into adulthood here.
