General Ecology Programs description:
The Darton College Challenge Course now offers two environmental education programs to our community. Our programs provide students with an opportunity to apply what they have learned in the classroom. Utilizing the scientific method, students explore the local ecology and natural resources. The experiential nature of the programs give participants ownership over their own learning and captures their attention through hands on involvement. Awareness, Appreciation and Understanding are our goals.
Blue Hole Ecology:
Focusing on the unique nature of the Floridan aquifer system and springs, participants begin their day with a visit to the Flint Riverquarium. Students will then have the opportunity to explore one of Albany GA’s most unique natural wonders, Radium Springs. After canoeing from the spring to the Flint River, students will completed various experiential work stations to focus on the following topics:
- Floridan Aquifer System
- Water Cycle
- Water Quality
- Unique Biodiversity
This program is a cooperative venture by:
Darton College, Georgia DNR, Jim Miller,
and the Flint Riverquarium.
