Gaming Club - Wireless Network Access
The purpose of this document is to implement a standardized convention for the Darton College Gaming Club Wireless Network Access.
For this document:
♦ Club Advisor – A Darton College faculty or staff member selected in helping the organization (club) achieve success.
♦ Darton College Gaming Club – A Student Activity program offered at Darton College. The purpose of the Gaming Club is to allow members to enjoy many forms of gaming and to expand the gaming field for others to enjoy as well.
♦ Gaming Computer – A personal computer, usually a laptop or notebook computer, that is used for of playing networked video games.
♦ Networked – A condition in which a collection of hardware components and or computers are interconnected by communication channels that allow interaction between the devices.
♦ Wireless Networking – Any type of computer network that is not connected by cables of any kind.
♦ Wireless LAN (Wireless Local Area Network) – Uses a wireless distribution network method to link two or more devices, usually providing a connection through an access point for Internet access.
Only those students who are active members in good standing of the Darton College Gaming Club are permitted the use of networked gaming on the Wireless LAN.
A distinct and isolated Wireless LAN is available for gaming computers use only. All other wireless devices, such as desktop computers, laptops, tablets, mobile devices, etc. will be denied access on the gaming Wireless LAN.
SSID and Security:
In order to gain permitted access to the gaming computers Wireless LAN, students must first be an active member in good standing of the Darton College Gaming Club. Students shall coordinate membership with the Club Advisor. The Club Advisor will then convey all information to Network Support Services, who will allow approved permitted access to the gaming computers Wireless LAN. The club member (student) shall not personally contact Network Support Services – they only need to communicate with the Club Advisor.
Permitted access to the gaming computers Wireless LAN will be granted to all active members in good standing of the Darton College Gaming Club. Users must understand that wireless connections are, in effect, an extension of the internal private network of Darton College, and as such, are subject to the same rules, regulations, compliances, policies and codes of conduct associated with Darton College. Violations to such rules, regulations, compliances, policies and codes of conduct may result in the removal of permitted access to the gaming computers Wireless LAN. As such, access to the Darton College network for gaming purposes is not a guaranteed service and may be altered or denied to any individual or as a whole at any time without notification.
Only basic, required network port access will be allowed for network gaming. Any request for specific or special port access for network gaming will be denied.
Network Support Services will maintain the registration for gaming computers. All permitted access to the gaming computers Wireless LAN will be purged after each summer semester and prior to each fall semester.
