Darton State College Students can now access the Internet using their own wireless network card on their laptop.
Wireless Access is available throughout the campus. As locations with poor coverage are found, we will make efforts to improve this coverage.
In an effort to make the wireless experience easier and more reliable we have implemented a web-auth system where users can connect and provide their username and password in Internet Explorer. The SSID or wireless network darton-web is now broadcast like wireless in residential/home networks.
When on campus your computer should see the wireless network darton-web. If you get the secure warning "You are connecting to the unsecured network darton-web. Information sent over this network is not encrypted and might be visible to other people." Select Connect Anyway if you are comfortable with this statement.
Once connected simply open an internet browser and you will be redirected to a log in page. Log in using your student password that allows you access to computers on campus.
Although a variety of 802.11b/g compliant wireless network cards may work on the Darton State College wireless network, the only wireless card that is recommended by Darton State College is the Cisco Aironet 802.11a/b/g card.
Newer Dell Axim handhelds have been tested and work on the wireless network, but Darton State College gives no guarantee that they will work as future upgrades to the network take place. No other handhelds have been tested by the Office of Information Technology and there is no guarantee that they will work.
