Exit Counseling Instructions
Student loans, unlike grants and work-study, are borrowed money that must be repaid, with interest, just like car loans and home mortgages. You cannot have these loans canceled because you didn’t like the education you received, didn’t get a job in your field of study or because you’re having financial difficulty. Student loans are legal obligations that you are required to repay.
As a reminder, Federal regulations mandate that Exit Counseling must be conducted by all departing students who received Federal Stafford Direct Subsidized, Unsubsidized or Plus loans while attending Darton State College.
If during academic year 12/13 you attended Darton State College and received a loan and either withdrew, dropped below half-time attendance or graduated, you are required to complete an Exit Counseling session. During your counseling session, you will be given information regarding the specifics and total amounts owed of your actual Stafford loans borrowed at all institutions. You will also be informed of contact information for repayment arrangements, deferments, etc. and what to do if you find yourself unable to make payment.
