Carter Scholarship for Non-Traditional Students
Criteria: Current Darton State College students who demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their education and chosen field, enrolled full or part-time. Applicants must have completed at least 12 credit hours and be registered for at least 6 credit hours for the current or upcoming academic semester. Preference will be given to non-traditional students (Those who have been out of high school at least 5 years and are currently working toward a degree at Darton State College) This scholarship is endowed in memory of Margie and Jimmie Carter and the successful scholarship recipient will be chosen each semester by the Carter family or their designee.

- Essay (two page max) describing your financial need as well as your academic and career goals
- A letter of recommendation from a Darton State faculty or staff member or an employer
- Have a 2.50 or higher GPA
Scholarship Amount: $500 per semester for tuition, fees, books and/or educational expenses.
Awarded Fall, Spring and Summer semesters.
December 1st for Spring semester
May 1st for Summer semester
July 1st for Fall semester
Chelsea Rae Langford Memorial Scholarship
This $2500 scholarship will be given annually in loving memory and honor of Chelsea Rae Langford to a student studying art. The scholarship recipient should demonstrate a love of art and compassion for people and it is not necessarily dependent upon academic achievements or financial need. Darton State College Alumni Association Scholarship
The Darton State College Alumni Association is proud to offer two $250 scholarships each semester. The scholarship recipient(s) will be awarded based on their cumulative GPA of 3.0 (minimum), but also by showing their service in their community and their Cavalier pride.
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
- Current or incoming student
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 (minimum)
- Volunteer or community service
Applicants should return the application with a 500 word essay about their community involvement and how they are or plan to be involved on the Darton campus. Students can reapply and be granted the scholarship up to 3 semesters provided they reapply and continue to meet the criteria.

Darton State College Memorial Scholarships
Recipients are sophomores who exhibit outstanding academic potential. These scholarships are in memory of faculty and staff members, including Henry O. Adams, A. Doy Beck, Owen B. Murphy, and Susan Kavanaugh.
Deanís Scholar Award
This award is a scholarship for incoming freshmen who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement. The scholarship is worth the total cost of tuition and mandatory fees for the fall and spring semesters. To qualify, students must be a current graduating senior with a college preparatory seal diploma, have a 3.0 GPA, a minimum SAT score of 1000 (combined critical reading and math) or ACT composite of 22, and show evidence of community and school involvement. Students who are awarded the scholarship must enroll as a full-time student (12 hours) and remain in a degree-seeking track within a transfer or career program. Recipients must maintain a 3.5 GPA and complete a minimum of 30 semester hours to remain eligible. The application for the Dean’s Scholar Award is available through the Office of Admissions at Darton State College, (229) 317-6941. The deadline to apply is March 15.
Scholarships are awarded by Darton State College academic divisions to students who show special promise in these areas. The recipients of these scholarships are nominated by Darton State College faculty from each awarding division. The scholarships cover one-half the cost of in-state tuition and fees for the first academic year. Recipients must maintain a 2.25 GPA to remain eligible.
Dr. Galina Soboleva Memorial Scholarship
This $1,000 scholarship will be given in memory of Dr. Soboleva, a beloved chemistry professor here at Darton. Dr. Soboleva was dedicated to the art of chemistry, loved teaching, and helping her students reach their highest potential.
The scholarship is being funded by an initial donation from Battelle, an employer of Dr. Soboleva.
The award recipient shall meet the following requirements:
- Georgia resident
- Current Darton student
- Major in a STEM field
- Completed a minimum of 12 credit hours
- Minimum GPA of 3.00
- Volunteer in their community
Applicants should return the application, proof of community or volunteer service, and an essay (two pages max) describing their career goals and why they are deserving of this scholarship. Battelle and their designee(s) will review and selected the recipient. The scholarship will be disbursed in two payments of $500 in fall and spring semester.

Dr. Jerry A. Walton Memorial Scholarship - Social Science
This scholarship is in the amount of $500 and is given annually to a student who has declared a major in teacher education. The recipient must have no less than a 3.0 GPA, be classified as a sophomore, and be involved in extra-curricular activities. A committee of Social Science faculty selects the recipient.
Garry Whitehead, Ph.D. Academic Scholarship - Social Science
This scholarship is established in the Darton State College Foundation, Inc. by Dr. Garry Whitehead for the purpose of providing scholarships for psychology majors at Darton State College. Each scholarship is for one academic year, and shall be dispersed at regular intervals during the school year in accordance with normal College policies.
Grace Emond Memorial Scholarship - Humanities
This scholarship in the amount of $500 is awarded to a full-time Darton student who works on a College or student publication. The scholarship is subject to renewal each fall and spring semester based on the recommendation of the publication advisor.
Madge Holm Memorial Human Services Technology Scholarship - Social Science
This in-state half-tuition scholarship is awarded to a student accepted into the Human Services Technology Program. The recipient cannot be receiving any other type of financial assistance and must maintain a 2.0 GPA to remain eligible for up to two years of support. Selection for this scholarship and annual renewal are determined by the Human Services Technology faculty.
This is a need-based scholarship for Darton students who exemplify excellence in leadership and service. The scholarship amount various according to financial need, enrollment status, and cost of attendance. Each scholarship will be awarded for the 2014-2015 school year based on review of the applicant’s financial need, community involvement, extra-curricular activities, and academic standing.
Spring 2015: Sunday, February 15, 2015
- Must be a citizen, legal U.S. resident, or permanent residents of the United States.
- Must have applied for a Federal Pell Grant by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Must demonstrate significant financial need.
- Must have demonstrated leadership and/or volunteering experience.
- Must be enrolled at Darton State College as either part-time or full-time students.
- Must have a minimum GPA of 2.0.
- Those who have earned a bachelor’s or professional degree previously do not qualify.
- Recipients will have to volunteer 10 hours per semester at Darton events.
- Recipients will have to write a letter of appreciation to the donor.
- Awards are not transferable to any other institution.

Number of Recipients:
The number of qualified applicants for scholarships is far greater than the available funding. Amounts vary and are awarded on the basis of need, enrollment status, length of enrollment, and cost of education at Darton. Not all qualified applicants will receive scholarships. The decisions of the scholarship committee are final.
Award Amounts for the 2014-2015 academic year:
- Students enrolled full-time (more than 12 credit hours) will be eligible for up to $3,000 annually.
- Students enrolled part-time (6 to 11 credit hours) will be eligible for up to $1,500 annually.
