Carter Scholarship for Non-Traditional Students

This scholarship is in loving memory and honor of Margie and Jimmie Carter.  The applicant must be a current Darton State College student who demonstrates a commitment to excellence in their education and chosen field, enrolled full or part-time. 

Must submit:

  • Must have completed have at least 12 credit hours and be registered for at least 6 credit hours for the current or upcoming semester
  • Must include an essay (two page max) describing your academic and career goals and how this scholarship will impact you 
  • A letter of recommendation from a Darton faculty/staff member or an employer
  • GPA requirement: 2.5
  • Preference is given to students who are at least 5 years post high school and are currently working toward a degree at Darton State College

Scholarship Amount: For 2015-2016 school year the scholarship may be used toward tuition, fees, books or educational expenses with half awarded in fall and half in spring.

Cavalier Scholar Award

Criteria: 

  • Must be an incoming freshman who has demonstrated outstanding academic achievement
  • Must be a current graduating senior with a college preparatory seal diploma
  • GPA requirement: 3.5 and a SAT of 1000 (combined critical reading and math) or ACT composite of 22
  • Must show evidence of community and school involvement
  • Students who are awarded the scholarship must enroll as a full-time student (12 hours) and remain in a degree-seeking track within a transfer or career program.
  • Recipients must maintain a 3.5 GPA each semester, for all attempted courses and to remain eligible for renewal of this scholarship for an additional academic year, must complete a minimum of 30 semester hours per academic year and maintain a 3.5 GPA.

Charles D. Chitty, Jr. Scholarship

The Charles D. Chitty, Jr. Scholarship is awarded to a student enrolled in a transfer program or a Nursing program. The scholarship can cover in state tuition and fees. Student must maintain a 3.0 GPA or better.

Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled in a transfer program or the Nursing program
  • GPA requirement: 3.0

Charles M. Jones, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Must be a student pursuing a degree in an arts related field
  • Must have a minimum 950 SAT or 20 ACT score
  • Must have a high school GPA of 3.0 and for any attempted college course work
  • Must be actively involved in performing arts, musical, theatre, etc.
  • Must participate in at least 10 volunteer hours per semester
  • Preference given to students intending to major in visual and performing arts

Chelsea Rae Langford Memorial Scholarship in Art

Criteria:

  • Student must be studying Art
  • Must demonstrate a love of art and compassion for people

Cliff Bowling Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Must be a rising sophomore working towards a degree in a science related field
  • Demonstrated excellence in previous academic performance
  • Preference is given to those intending to study pre-veterinary medicine and students not receiving other scholarship aid
  • Scholarship applications must be accompanied by a faculty recommendation

Curtis Malone Memorial Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Must be a respiratory student in good standing
  • Must have a positive can do attitude and willingness to help others
  • Must have demonstrated a strong dedication and motivation to becoming a Respiratory Therapist and have demonstrated exceptional work ethic in their respiratory course work
  • Complete an essay on the topic "Meeting your dreams by becoming a Respiratory Therapist"
  • Preference will be given to a non-traditional student making a career change to respiratory care, particularly one that both the applicant and their family are making sacrifices to help the student achieve their dream.

Darton Dependents Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Must be a spouse, child, or legal 'dependent' of a full-time, Darton State College employee
  • A dependent under the age of 26, unless a spouse of the employee
  • GPA requirement: 2.5 and must maintain the same average

Criteria:

Darton State College Alumni Association Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Must be a current Darton State College student
  • Must submit a 500 word essay about your community involvement and how you are or plan to be involved on the Darton State College Campus
  • GPA requirement: 3.0

Dr. Galina Soboleva Memorial Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Must be a Georgia resident and current Darton State College student
  • Must be working towards a degree in a STEM related field
  • Must have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours
  • Must volunteer in the community - Include proof of community or volunteer service
  • Include an essay (two pages max) describing your career goals and why you deserve this scholarship
  • GPA requirement: 3.0

Criteria:

  • Student must have attended Worth County High School
  • Must major in Nursing or an Allied Health related program

Criteria:

  • Must be pursuing a degree in Teacher Education
  • GPA requirement: 3.0
  • Must be classified as a sophomore
  • Must be involved in extra-curricular activities

Emergency Medical Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Students must be enrolled in the Emergency Medical Program at Darton State College

English Merit Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Awarded to students who are working towards a degree in English
  • Must have a 3.7 high school GPA or a 3/5 college cumulative GPA with no less than a B in any English course

Faculty Memorial Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Students that are sophomores and exhibit outstanding academic performance
  • Students must be recommended by a faculty member for consideration
  • Must have completed at least 15 credit hours (at least 12 completed at Darton)
  • Completed some form of service to Darton State College
  • GPA requirement: 3.7

First Generation College Student Scholarships

Criteria:

  • Must be a freshman with no previous Darton State College credits
  • Must not have more than 12 earned hours from another institution or high school AP credit (or equivalent)
  • Must be a first generation college student (neither parent possesses a college degree at any level)
  • GPA requirement: 2.5

Garry Whitehead, PhD Academic Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Must be a full-time student and rising sophomore working towards a degree in Psychology
  • Must have a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA and a minimum 3.0 GPA in psychology courses
  • Must have a demonstrated financial need

Gorecki/Albany Chorale Vocal Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Must be a vocal student enrolled in vocal music applied lessons, vocal ensemble or college choir.

Hosea Hall Vann & Lillie Eason Vann Nursing Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Must be a second year nursing student
  • Must be a resident of a Southwest Georgia County
  • GPA requirement: 3.2 and must maintain the same during the academic year
  • Must have declared nursing as a major
  • Consideration will be made for a demonstrated financial need
  • Preference will be given to a Thomas or contiguous county resident

James M. Barnett, Jr. Scholarships

Criteria:

  • Must be studying or working towards a degree in music
  • Must be nominated by a music faculty
  • Must apply and audition for consideration

Linda D. Ham Memorial Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Must be a first time freshman including Non-traditional students
  • Studying Art 
  • GPA requirement: 2.7
  • Submit artist portfolio
  • Essay describing your reason for choosing art as a field of study

Military Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Must be a veteran, reservist, or serving in an active duty capacity
  • Must have completed 12 months of active duty/service
  • Have a declared major
  • Have completed 24 credit hours
  • GPA requirements: 3.0

Richie Day Golf Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Must be eligible to play for the Darton State College golf team
  • A Georgia resident
  • Must submit a brief essay explaining your goals for the future 
  • GPA requirement: 2.5

Roselyn Ware Memorial Nursing Scholarship

Criteria:

  • May be full time or part time student
  • Traditional and non-traditional students are eligible
  • Must be enrolled or accepted into the Nursing program.
  • GPA requirement: 2.5
  • Must be a resident of Mitchell County

School of Humanities & Social Sciences Dedication Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Must have completed one semester at Darton State College
  • Students must be pursuing a program of study offered in the School of Humanities and Social   Sciences and show dedication through involvement in performances, student organizations, and/or publications
  • Must be recommended by a supervising faculty member
  • Must have a recommendation letter from a faculty member
  • GPA requirement: 2.0

School of Humanities & Social Sciences Merit Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Students who are incoming freshmen or have previously been a dual enrolled student
  • Students must be pursuing a program of study offered in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and have a minimum 3.0 high school GPA
  • Application must include a recommendation from a former teacher, supervisor, or high school administrator

Sharon Shearer Memorial Scholarship for Nursing

Criteria:

  • Must be a Georgia or Alabama resident
  • Write an essay on why you deserve this scholarship (500 words or less)
  • Demonstrated volunteerism in the community
  • GPA requirement: 3.0
  • Preference will be given to a MSA (Musculoskeletal Associates) employee
