Martha Baugh Perkins (’70) graduated with an A.A. in Nursing and transferred to Albany State College (now University) and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in ’74. She received her Master of Science in Nursing from the Medical College of Georgia in ’76. Martha retired from the University System of Georgia in 2005 after serving 31 years. Twenty-eight of those years were spent employed by Darton College as the Assistant Professor of Nursing. Martha currently holds certification on a national and state level in Adult Psychiatric/Mental Health and currently holds national and state board certification for Advanced Practice RN in Psychiatric Nursing. Martha was voted Teacher of the Year in ’94 and Advisor of the Year in ’03. Martha was married to James S. Perkins who is now deceased. James was also a Darton College (Albany Junior College) graduate with an A.S. in Business Administration. He was retired from Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. as a buyer and was retired from the Marine Corps Logistics Base as a Contract Specialist.
Bengie Cravey (’72) graduated with an A.S. degree; then went to the University of Georgia and received a B.S. degree (’74) and a M. Ed degree (’80). Bengie lives in Albany and is employed by Darton College as the Director of Student Activities and has been an employee of the college for 28 years.
Patricia Davis (’72) graduated with an Associate of Arts degree; then graduated from Georgia Southwestern University in ’74 with a B.S. in Education, majors in Spanish and English. She went on to receive a M.A. in Spanish from the University of Georgia in ’76. She currently lives in Albany and is employed by Darton College as Associate Professor of Spanish and the Coordinator, Foreign Language Program.
Martha Medders Snow (’73) graduated with an Associate of Arts degree. She currently lives in Albany with husband Ronald “Ronnie” Lee Snow and is employed by Darton College as the Director of Auxiliary Services. She has been employed with the college for 32 years and has received several awards during her employment, including: Outstanding Staff Award (’90); Student Services Special Recognition Award (’95 – ’96); Athletics Service Award (’99 – ’00); Athletics Special Recognition/ Outstanding Service (’02). Martha has two children, Lindsey Gayle (age 27) who graduated May ’05 with an Associate of Science degree from Darton and Heather Marie (age 22) who graduated from Darton College December ’04 with an Associate of Science degree.
Jack M. Sell ('73) - Throughout the years, Jack has garnered a reputation as the “go-to guy” for creativity in filmmaking. Partnering with his wife, Adrianne, they’ve taken film and commercials from concept to completion. He is the recipient of over sixty national and international television and film awards. He currently resides in Port Richey, Florida where he manages his company, Sell Communications, and continues to produce, direct, write, and teach.
Ann Toms Engram Smith (’74) graduated with an Associate of Arts degree; then transferred to the University of Georgia and received a B.A. (’75) and a M.A. (’76) in History. Ann then went on to earn a Ph.D. from Florida State University. She currently lives in Albany and recently retired as a Professor of History at Darton College. Her husband, Greg J. Smith, is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Darton. Ann was employed by Darton College for 29 years. Achievements include the Outstanding Student in Social Sciences at Darton in ’74; Phi Beta Kappa; Governor’s Teaching Fellow (to date, the only Darton faculty member to receive); Recipient of Outstanding Teaching Award, Outstanding Community Service Award, and Outstanding College Service Award. Ann and Gregory were married 5/01. Ann has one son, Franklin Edward Engram (age 20).
Laura Copelan Benford (’75) graduated with an Associate of Arts degree; then transferred to Georgia Southern University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance. Laura is a retired bookkeeper. She is a member of Porterfield United Methodist Church; served as President of the Junior League of Albany (’93 – ’94); and was President of the Charity League of Albany (’03 – ’04). Laura lives in Albany and is married to Ben Benford (’69). Laura and Ben have two children, Kelly Lee (age 22) and Wesley Reynolds (20).
Jeanette Bronner McDowell (’76) graduated with an A.A. degree and then transferred to Georgia Southwestern and received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in ’82. Jeanette resides in Albany with her husband, Cornelius. She is employed by Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital as the Assistant Director of Nursing. Jeanette has been with Phoebe Putney for 29 years. She has two children, Keith B. Bronner (age 34) and Jason C. McDowell (age 20).
