Soccer alumni came back to campus for a reunion game!
Their presence, along with many others, meant a lot to Coach Veilands. “Having been there from the start, and then seeing them come back 13 years later playing, and the camaraderie – you don’t find that too often at a two-year school,” he said. For the first time there was not just a single game. Instead the event became an afternoon of soccer and reconnecting thanks to a new 3v3, 6v6 and 11v11 game format. “The alumni really liked it,” said Darton head men’s soccer coach Bart Sasnett. “Instead of just coming out and playing the current team, they got to play with them and against them. So it wasn’t an ‘us versus them’ kind of thing. There was a ‘Hey, we're all Darton’ feel. It was cool.”
The Cavaliers want to keep this as an annual event and have a goal of having hundreds of alumni play. Those interested in participating are encouraged to contact Lisa Malinowski , the Darton State College alumni coordinator, or visit www.cavs.darton.edu.
