Sadie, a native of Loganville, GA, chose Darton State College because it offered both the opportunity to be on a swim team and allowed her room to explore different majors. She started at Darton as an art major, but changed her major several times before settling on pre-engineering.
“Attending Darton was one of the best choices I made. I had no clue what I wanted to do with my life. I changed my major several times, but finally was able to land on something I actually enjoyed,” said Sadie.
Sadie attributes much of her academic success to the teachers and her swim coach at the time, Molly Gilbert. Being at Darton allowed her to take most of her core classes in a smaller class setting and get the personal attention she needed.
After Darton State College, Sadie transferred to GA Tech and in May 2013 she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in material science and engineering. Today she is a consulting engineer with Applied Technical Services in Marietta, GA, and says her dream job would be as a failure analysis and testing of airplanes and spacecraft. All of the Darton State College community wishes Sadie the best in her future endeavors.
