MEXICO STUDY ABROAD- JULY 16-29, 2008
The Foreign Languages Department will be offering a study abroad trip to Querétaro, México this summer semester 2008, from July 16-29th.
The program will consist of 14-day travel to Mexico City, Querétaro, San Miguel de Allende, and Tequisquiapan.
Students enrolled in the study abroad program will be required to take two classes: Spanish and International Perspectives.
"But I don't speak Spanish!"
You do not need to be able to speak Spanish in order to join in this experience. You will be required to be in a Spanish class appropriate for your speaking abilities, but necessary translations will be done by the director.
"But I don't have the money or the time!"
To offer this experience to as many students as possible, the trip itself is only two weeks long from July 19-29th. The cost is approximately $1500 (variable due to plane ticket costs). This is an incredible price for a cultural trip to Mexico!
"But I've never been out of the country before!"
For students hesitant to travel abroad, the International Perspectives class will prepare them for international travel and provide them with the necessary background to appreciate and learn from sites to be visited, as well as from the international travel experience itself. Student preparation will include such topics as cultural/political sensitivity, orientation to features of the foreign culture(s) to be visited, and orientation to the historical, political, literary, artistic, and/or environmental highlights of the trip. Parents of younger students are encouraged to come to the first class for a Q & A session in order to feel confident about the safety of this trip.
"I can't go this summer but I'd like to go at a later time."
The Foreign Languages Department hopes to make this trip an annual event, so even if you know you can't go this year, consider going in Summer 2009. USG offers a STARS program that is a work study allowing students to make up to $500 towards their trip while working on campus. It's too late to do STARS for this summer's trip, but not to late to sign up for next year!
"Well, I'm interested, but not sure yet."
