  • MERLOT - An organization made up of leading higher education systems, consortia, and institutions - provides high quality digital learning materials to faculty members who are using the world wide web for both traditional and distance learning courses. It is a "gateway" to modularized learning materials that faculty can incorporate into their own courses. Learning materials posted in MERLOT are primarily interactive simulations, animations, and tutorials that will be peer-reviewed and tested in appropriate educational settings. MERLOT's mission is to improve the effectiveness of teaching and learning by expanding the quantity and quality of peer-reviewed online learning materials that can be easily incorporated into faculty designed courses.

    • Excite - Provides categorized results giving a quick overview of a subject.  Good tools for adjusting the search results
    • Fast Search - One of the largest web indexes.
    • GO Network - Quality results to general and broad searches.
    • Google - Heavy use of link popularity to rank Web sites. Especially helpful for general searches
    • HotBot - Large Web index with many power searching features.
    • Infoseek - Voted by PC Computing magazine's editors as the most valuable search tool. Allows for phrase searching.
    • Lycos - Combines news and other info on its web page.  The Lycos Pro Search feature lets you look for specific content such as images, books, etc.
