Graduation Procedures & Fees
It is the College's wish that every graduate would participate in one of the two annual graduation exercises as it is an opportunity to share this accomplishment with family and friends. Questions concerning graduation, graduation forms or graduation fees should be directed to:
| Courtney Jones Graduation Coordinator Academic Services Building, Room K 101 (229) 317-6572 courtney.jones.1@darton.edu |
OR | Nicole Horn Assistant Registrar Academic Services Building, Room K 101 (229) 317-6745 nicole.horn@darton.edu |
All candidates for graduation, including those completing degrees by distance learning, must complete and submit a Request for Graduation Record Check (pdf format 31K) to their academic advisor at least 2 semesters prior to their anticipated graduation date. Completed forms may be submitted in person or by mailing to the Division Office in the major area of study. Approved requests are forwarded, along with a copy of the program of study, to the Records Office.
The candidate for graduation will receive by return mail a copy of the degree audit based upon the degree indicated and the coursework completed or currently in progress. The candidate will also receive an Application for Graduation which must be completed and returned to the Registrar's Office.
| Graduation Fee: | All candidates for graduation will be charged a $50 fee to cover costs related to graduation. The graduation fee is due and payable even if the student is not participating in the graduation exercise. No diploma will be released without payment of this fee. The graduation fee is due by March 15th for those students graduating in May and by October 15th for those students graduating in December. For those students satisfying degree requirements at the end of the summer semester the fee should be paid by the last semester of attendance. Failure to turn in graduation applications by the due date will result in a $15 late fee. Graduation fees may be refunded if the student requests a refund at least thirty days prior to graduation. The fee may be advanced one semester if all requirements are not fulfilled by the anticipated graduation date. The fee is used to help defray the cost of the diploma, diploma cover and cap and gown rental. The fee is required of all graduates whether they plan to participate in the graduation exercise or not. |
| Graduation Exercise: | There are two formal graduation exercises per year - at the conclusion of the fall and spring semesters. These exercises are normally held at 7:00 pm on the day following the end of final exams. Graduates of the preceding semesters are encouraged to participate in one of these exercises. |
| Graduation Rehearsal: | A rehearsal for participants is conducted on the evening prior to the actual exercise (normally at 6:00 pm). The graduation instructions are mailed to all potential graduates prior to the rehearsal. |
| Caps and Gowns: | The caps and gowns are black in color and may be picked up the week before graduation. |
| Diplomas: | The date on the diploma indicates the date degree requirements were satisfied. All graduates receive a blank diploma cover during the exercise and diplomas are mailed. Please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery. |
| Graduating in Absentia: | It is the College's wish that every graduate would participate in one of the two annual graduation exercises as it is an opportunity to share this accomplishment with family and friends. It is understood, however, that this may not always be possible. If there are reasons why an individual is unable to participate, the graduate should indicate this on their Graduation Application. |
| Invitations/Rings: | Invitations to the graduation exercise and rings for graduates may be purchased through Herff Jones. Please go to www.herffjones.com/college/graduation and use the drop down box and select Darton College. |
| Reception: | A reception sponsored by the Darton College Foundation, Inc., and Student Services honoring the graduates and their families is held immediately following the conclusion of the graduation ceremony. |
