Working Title: Information Technology Senior Network Support Specialist
Department: Information Technology
Purpose:
This is a technical position that provides 1st line support for all network services including installation, operation, and optimization. This position also provides support of desktops, laptops, and servers to end users.
Nature of Work:
The IT Network Support Specialist directly assists the IT Network Services Coordinator in the installation and maintenance of all network related equipment. This position also handles critical end user issues/problems/support on software, hardware, and networking issues to maintain an effective and efficient end-user computing environment for the administrative services departments for the campus.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assists higher level network personnel by providing technical assistance in analyzing, designing, and administering the performance of network configurations.
- Assists higher level network personnel with the development of reports and procedures to optimize the benefits of network capabilities.
- Assists higher level network personnel in the physical set up of networks, assuring integrity of communication/connections.
- Provides technical assistance in managing the performance of program packages and various software packages of simple to moderate complexity, and provides training and support of these packages.
- Performs basic hardware and software problem determination and resolution.
- Provides basic programming skills.
- Provides deployment and support of desktops, laptops, and servers. This includes the loading and configuring of software and hardware, testing of the PC and or server and delivery and setup to the end user.
Required/Desired Knowledge, Abilities & Skills:
- Experience relating to network communication and computer system hardware and software.
- Experience with user support in a Windows environment along with the ability to install both software and hardware.
- Experience with Cisco networking devices with the ability to install both software and hardware.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to handle critical customer issues/problems.
- Able to determine problems and deliver known solutions with a high level of customer satisfaction.
- Ability to determine root cause and resolution for previously unknown problems.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work.
- Work as a team member and work independently.
Required Education and/or Experience:
Associate's degree, CCNA or MCSA preferred.
Supervision:
The Information Technology Network Support Specialist for the Office of Information Technology reports directly to the Information Technology Network Services Coordinator.
