Working Title: Director of Student Activities
Department: Student Activities
Purpose:
The Director of Student Activities is responsible for directing all aspects of the Student Activities Office.
Nature of Work:
The Director of Student Activities is responsible for the day-to-day administration, coordination and supervision of student programming as well as long-term and short term fiscal planning. The Director of Student Activities works closely with various campus offices including the administration, the faculty, and the facilities. The Student Activities Office serves as the “center” of campus life by offering cultural, social, recreational and educational programs and opportunities to the students of Darton College.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Director of Student Activities is a mid-level position whose responsibilities include, but are not limited to, coordinating and supervising the following areas:
- All campus-wide programming funded by the student activity fees for main campus and Cordele satellite campus
- Supervise all Student Activities accounts and budget
- The Intramural and Recreation Programs
- The Student Center
- Clubs and organizations
- The Student Government Association.
- Student Activities Office personnel
- The Game Room facility
- Intramural and Game Room work-study student staff
- Recreational staff
- Serve on College committees as requested (8-10)
- Serve as “resource person” for the Student Services Committee
- Oversee the publishing of the Student handbook
- Oversee the publishing of the Student Activities calendar
- Serve as Operational Supervisor of the College I.D. card system
- Serve as Building Monitor for C-Building Student Center
- Other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Student Affairs
Required/Desired Knowledge, Abilities & Skills:
DESIRABLE SKILLS: Successful candidates will foster and promote an integrated team approach to student programming. Excellent fiscal, communication, advising and interpersonal skills along with a commitment to outstanding student service and teamwork are essential. The Director of Student Activities must have demonstrated evidence of: a demonstrated growth in responsibilities in previous positions; a passion and commitment for student success; strong oral and written communication skills; demonstrated budget development and management; the ability to manage and motivate others; knowledge and experience in contract negotiations/performance riders; history of program assessment; and strength in planning and organization. The Director must possess a passion for the development of college students exhibited in the day-to-day operations of the office and the varied work schedule including nights and weekends. In addition, the candidate must be energetic, creative, forward-thinking, committed to a collaborative team approach to accomplishing the mission of the Student Activity Department as well as that of the Division of Student Affairs.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Position requires some travel. Ability to lift and carry files and materials. Ability to move from one office to another office on campus. Adequate vision, hearing and manual dexterity to interact with people in person, on the phone and in writing. Job takes place in normal environmental conditions.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: Criminal History Check required.
HOURS: Position may require non-standard work hours (nights and weekends).
Required Education and/or Experience:
EDUCATION: Master's degree (or higher) from an accredited college/university required.
EXPERIENCE: Two or more years progressive administrative experience in student programming, student group advising, and/or program administration.
Supervision:
The Director of Student Activities reports directly to the Vice President for Student Affairs.
