Darton State College is a progressive, rapidly growing State College within the State of Georgia. The main campus is located in the major city of Albany, with five satellite higher education centers in the state.

Located on a 180-acre campus in Southwest Georgia, the grounds are covered with magnolia, pecan and oak trees, azaleas and other native flora that provide the eco-friendly residential campus a welcoming feeling of southern charm and hospitality. The campus features walking and running trails and numerous outdoor athletic facilities, such as the tennis pavilion and alpine climbing tower. Indoor facilities are designed for the active lifestyle, with a state of the art pool, fitness center, racquetball courts, and dance studios. Additional activities such as stargazing, dinner theatres, art festivals, Science and Math fairs and technology workshops are available for all age groups and professional and personal development. Being located in the northwestern part of the city of Albany provides easy access to the local shopping areas and restaurants and peaceful residential neighborhoods. Trips to the Florida beaches, Atlanta, and the Georgia mountains are a short two to three hour drive for a weekend mini-vacation.  Rich in southern history, the area also has an abundance of natural water for water activities and sports and is the home of Chehaw Park (one of two accredited zoos in the State of Georgia,) the Weatherbee Planetarium, the Albany Civil Rights Movement Museum, Radium Springs, (one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Georgia) and many other attractions of current and historical interest. The city has been ranked by Money Magazine as the best place to live in Georgia and among the top 115 places to live in the United States.

Darton State College, one of the newest State Colleges within the University System of Georgia (USG) is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award Baccalaureate and Associate degrees and certificates.  The Commission on Colleges has classified Darton State College as a Level II Institution.  Darton recruits both nationally and internationally.  Opened in 1966, Darton State College has experienced a growth rate of over 93% since 2001 and currently enrolls over 6,100 students in Baccalaureate, transfer, two-year associate degree programs and one-year career certificate programs.  Darton State College also offers a comprehensive continuing education program.

Responsibilities of the position include:

Provide leadership in the creation, planning, development, direction, and evaluation of all teacher training programs and courses in accordance with the mission and academic standards of Darton State College, the University System of Georgia, Georgia Professional Standards Commission, Georgia Department of Education, and The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.

The Dean of the Division of Teacher Education reports directly to the VPASA. The Dean interacts with faculty, administrators, staff, students, alumni and other constituencies.  Reporting directly to the Dean are the Associate Dean for Middle Grades Education and the Associate Dean for Secondary Education and an Administrative Assistant. (Since this is a new academic division, all of these positions are new and are presently vacant.)
