Darton Faculty Members Receive Excellence in Teaching Award

August 22, 2013

ALBANY – Four Darton State College faculty members have received the Excellence in Teaching Award for 2013 from the National Institute for Staff & Organizational Development (NISOD). David Latona, assistant professor of history; Dr. April Reese, dean of nursing; Pat Ridgeway, assistant reading professor; and Jeff Swords, assistant professor of math, were among the 950 two-year college faculty members nationwide to be recognized for their dedication to teaching.

To be eligible for the award, a full-time faculty or staff member must be nominated by their peers. The nominations are then reviewed by a committee and submitted to NISOD. Since 1991, Darton State College has 112 NISOD winners.

Since its inception in 1978, NISOD has emphasized the importance of teaching and leadership excellence in institutions of higher education. NISOD Excellence Awards are given each year to two-year college employees across the country who exemplify teaching and leadership excellence.

Since 1966, Darton State College has been a leader in providing quality educational opportunities and services to Southwest Georgia. During fiscal year 2012, Darton had a total economic impact of more than $135 million. Darton offers 54 transfer program options, plus 41 career program options and certificates.
