Darton Announces All-Steinway
December 03, 2013
ALBANY – Darton State College Foundation and Claire Fox Hillard, director of performing arts, has announced an All-Steinway Piano Initiative, a $1million fund-raising program that aims to provide the music department with 21 Steinway pianos for practice and performance. The initiative will give students and faculty the best equipment possible and demonstrates the college’s continued commitment to excellence. In order to be classified as an All-Steinway School, 95 percent of the college’s piano inventory must be Steinway & Sons.
“This goal will greatly enhance the educational experience that Darton State College offers our students, creates significant opportunities to further engage the community, generates increased interest and support for our music programs, and provides a powerful recruiting tool for attracting and retaining outstanding students and faculty,” said Dr. Paul Jones, interim president for Darton State College.
“It is essential that we provide the finest tools for quality teaching and performing,” Dr. Zheng Jennifer Huang, newly appointed assistant professor of piano said. “As a benefactor, your generosity will continue to provide the department with inspiration and resources to further the pursuit of excellence in music.”
Christy Broussard Myers of Broussard’s Piano Gallery in Mobile, AL said a Steinway piano is the piano of choice for 98 percent of all pianists who make their living playing piano on the concert stage.
“For 160 years, Steinway & Sons has been a name associated with the world’s finest pianos,” Myers said. “The instruments are all individually handmade and are known for their incomparable sound, performance and enduring quality. This is why prospective students, parents and faculty choosing a school known for quality education will recognize the designation of being an All-Steinway School as a commitment to excellence.”
All-Steinway Schools include Yale School of Music and The School of Music at Carnegie-Mellon University, among others. “By providing the best instruments possible, institutions demonstrate their commitment to excellence at every level. Nowhere is this more evident than among our valued All-Steinway Schools, which strive to deliver an unparalleled educational experience to their students,” Myers said.
