Darton Theatre Major Wins Two National Awards Capping Successful Festival Attendance
February 12, 2014
ALBANY, GA – Darton State College sophomore and technical theatre major, Jessi Robinson, won two National Awards from Festival 46 of Region IV of the Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival.
Robinson, who was nominated to enter her sound design from Darton’s production of “The Thirty-Nine Steps” in the Festival’s Design Technology and Management Exposition, presented her work before a panel of distinguished professionals who served as judges for the Exposition.
A first-time sound designer, Robinson won National Honorable Mention in Sound Design, and was one of only six students from the 10-state region to be awarded a weeklong fellowship to the Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas. According to Jane Childs, director of the SILV, the six were awarded fellowships because the judges, “felt that they would be working in the business in five years and we (the judges) want to work with them.”
In addition to the national awards, two freshman students, Sharnelle Kimbrough and Keon Perkins, were cast in a performance of an award-winning play during the Festival. These successes were the highlight of a rewarding week for the Darton theatre students at the Festival, who performed an original piece of Devised Theatre, attended numerous workshops and performances, and networked with peers and professionals. For questions, comments or concerns regarding news items, or to find out how to announce campus events via Darton News, please contact the Office of Institutional Advancement.
