Keep Kids Active and Learning at DSC Summer Camps

ALBANY, GA - Darton State College’s Continuing Education department is gearing up for their summer camps, which will begin in June. Darton State College offers a variety of youth summer camp options for kids of all ages. Areas of focus include arts and enrichment, athletics, environmental, and science.

The following is just a glimpse at some of the summer camps being offered.

  • Fun with Art!
    Monday, July 21 – Thursday, July 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
    Ages: 9-14
    Cost: $145 (includes T-Shirt)

    Camp participants will learn different drawing techniques, work with pastels, watercolors, acrylics, color pencils and, if time permits, jewelry making. Students will also paint one picture on canvas over the 4 days, so bring a photo to work from. All supplies will be provided.
  • WOW Science Camp Monday
    June 23 – Thursday, June 26 from 8:30 to noon
    Ages: 5-7
    Cost: $135 (includes T-shirt)

    Students will learn about the plant life cycle from seed growth to the parts of a plant and seed dispersal. They will explore and identify plant parts using a microscope to examine various characteristics and the importance each plays. There will also be fun activities such as identifying small insects that may hinder a plants life as well as patterns that can be harmful to plants.
  • Jr. FIRST Lego League Camp (LEGO®)
    Monday, June 23 – Friday, June 27, from 8:30 a.m. – noon
    Ages: 5-8
    Cost: $145 (includes take home Lego)

    First stands for For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology.  FIRST’s mission is to inspire people to be science and technology leaders by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills; inspire innovation; and foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership. Campers will work in teams in order to:
    • Design and build a challenge related model using Legos
    • Create a “Show Me” poster and practice presentation skills
    • Explore challenges facing today’s scientists
    • Develop teamwork skills
  • Forensic Science Camp
    Monday, July 14 – Thursday, July 17, from 8:30 a.m. – noon
    Ages: 9 - 12

    This class is designed to create awareness in the areas of Police Crime Investigations. Campers will learn firsthand tactical police procedures such as finger printing, crime scene photography, accident investigation, and collection and preservation of evidence. They will process a simulated scene and document findings for the court. A Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent will be assisting students!

In addition to the camps listed above, Darton offers many more enrichment camps and athletic camps, such as baseball, tennis, swimming, soccer, and many more. For camps that are only offered during the morning hours, parents can keep their kids busy in the afternoon with the Cavalier Afternoon Activities Camp. This camp starts June 9 and runs through July 17 from noon to 5 p.m.
