Darton State, ASU Set to Sign Agreements
June 27, 2014
ALBANY, GA - Albany State University and Darton State College are forming a strategic alliance to support college accessibility for students in Albany and Southwest Georgia. Dr. Art Dunning, ASU’s interim president and Dr. Paul Jones, interim president of Darton will ink three new articulation agreements at a signing ceremony to be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 1 in the Student Center Conference Room (2-176).
The contracts, effective July 1 outline the terms and conditions by which the institutions will establish formal “2+2” agreements which allow students to transition between schools with ease. For instance, a student with an Associate Degree in Music from DSC can earn a Bachelor in Music Education from ASU. Students with an Associate Degree in Social Work from DSC are able to obtain a Bachelor in Social Work from ASU, and students with an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from DSC can transfer to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice at ASU.
“I want to send a unified message to the residents of this city, region and state: The education leaders in Albany are working as a team to leverage our intellectual assets and build bridges between our institutions,” said Dunning.
“Articulation agreements are a winning strategy not only to optimize student learning experiences, but to expand educational opportunities and provide a seamless entry for students,” Jones said.
The partnerships demonstrate the institutions’ commitment to working strategically combining community resources to create educational opportunities.
