Author To Speak on "Silent Racism" Feb. 12
Author Dr. Barbara Trepagnier will visit campus on February 12 to discuss her book Silent Racism and introduce the concept to students.
She will facilitate a dialogue about racism in America and racial issues in the 21st century.
Trepagnier teaches sociology at Texas State University-San Marcos and has recently joined the Task Force on Racial Disproportionality, sponsored by Texas Child Protective Services and Casey Families.
Silent Racism persuasively demonstrates that silent racism – racism by people who by all accounts would be classified as “not racist” – is instrumental in the production of institutional racism. Trepagnier argues that heightened race awareness is more important in changing racial inequality than judging whether individuals are racist.
This event is open to the public. For more information, please call (229) 317-6925.
