Darton Receives Funding for Retrofit Projects To Save on Utility Costs
Darton College has been approved to receive funding through the State Facilities Retrofit Program for three energy conservation projects totaling $494,526.
The projects at Darton include replacing all existing T-12 fixtures to T-8 electronic ballast fixtures campus wide, replacing existing high bay lights in the Physical Education Building with energy efficient T-5 fixtures, and installing an automatic pool cover system for the indoor pool. The three projects are estimated to save Darton College $108,500 annually in utility costs.
The University System of Georgia (USG) has received funding under the State Facilities Retrofit Program to fund 71 energy-conservation measures totaling $27.3 million at 25 colleges and universities across the state. The Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority (GEFA) is providing the funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
Since 2007, increasing energy efficiency in the University System of Georgia's colleges and universities has been the focus of a system-wide initiative that supports one of the Board of Regents' strategic goals to operate more efficiently as a system.
