Darton Designated as a Military-Friendly College
January 15, 2010
Darton College has been chosen for inclusion in the Military Advanced Education’s 3rd Annual Guide to America’s Military-Friendly Colleges and Universities.
Darton supports military learners and dependents through numerous online and distance learning programs, offering more than 50 fully online degrees and certificates. In addition to real-time two-way audio and visual communication, the instructor and online student are able to share a virtual classroom complete with multimedia visualizations, white-board, and desktop sharing capability. This ability to instruct military learners and their dependents regardless of geographic location enables instruction to continue independent of duty station changes.
Darton also offers customized class programs for the military. The Marine Music program is particularly suited to meet the needs of the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany. Marines from the Marine Corps Band detachment stationed on the base register for class and are accepted as a group. A special semester term is created which offers flexibility (potential for accelerated study or prolonged study) depending on the demands of the military and availability for class/study.
Darton will be offering a nursing program customized to the needs of the military community this year at Fort Benning, Ga. Currently being developed in direct collaboration with military authorities at Fort Benning, the program will provide military personnel and their families an associate nursing degree and a health care RN bridge program for selected careers.
In addition to its designation as a Military-Friendly College, Darton is part of SOCMAR, a subgroup of the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) Degree Network System. SOCMAR is for Marine Corps servicemembers and their families.
