Spring Commencement May 6
April 27, 2010
Darton College’s Spring 2010 Commencement will be held Thursday, May 6, at 7 p.m. in the Cavalier Arena.
David Blackwell will give the keynote speech. He is the founder and president of With Perfection, Inc., one of South Georgia’s largest landscape maintenance contracting firms. He is a member of the board of Mission: Change and serves as the mission project coordinator.
Approximately 330 graduates are eligible to receive an associate of science, associate of arts, associate of applied science degree, or a certificate. Following commencement, the Darton College Foundation and the Student Government Association will host a reception for the graduates and their families in the Student Center.
Pat Gohman, 70, of Albany is graduating this May with an associate’s degree in music. After retiring in 2007, she decided to take music classes. She had been studying classical guitar at Darton in the evenings. She signed up for college choir, followed by voice class, and by then she was hooked on music at Darton and made it her major.
Gohman, who has a bachelor’s degree in accounting, previously worked for the government and as an office manager/financial administrator for a church. She will remain retired after receiving her degree from Darton but plans to continue guitar and voice lessons.
She says she is glad she chose to go back to school. She said she wouldn’t trade anything for the opportunities she has had to interact with the younger students.
She also says, “I’ve learned more about music than I ever knew there was to be learned. It’s been really fun.”
The allied health pinning ceremony will be held May 6 at 3 p.m. in the Cavalier Arena.
The nursing pinning ceremony for 51 nursing graduates will be May 6 at 5 p.m. in the Cavalier Arena. Darton Nursing Instructor Latrona Lanier will be the keynote speaker.
