April 04, 2011
Darton College alumnus Anthony Parr received a Regents’ Hall of Fame Alumni Award at the University System of Georgia’s Regents’ Awards for Excellence in Education Celebration.
Parr, who teaches mathematics at Darton, was born and raised in Albany. He is a graduate of Darton, the University of Georgia, and Albany State University. A graduate of the U.S. Navy Supply Corps Officers School, he provided logistical support in various operations environments within the Navy. In 1996, he retired as the Commander of the Supply Corps of the U.S.Navy Reserve.
Mr. Parr has strong ties to his heritage and considers Ireland his other home. From 1998 to the present, he has been a confidant to the president of Ireland, Mary McAleese, has given numerous speeches on her behalf, and currently serves as a research consultant to the Irish Trade Organization of the Republic of Ireland. This appointment has allowed him to significantly aid the United States in economic development through the creation of several military economic zones. He consults for military bases in Georgia, North Carolina, and Texas in an effort to build and strengthen the military economic zones that surround them.
Some of Parr’s awards and commendations include two Meritorious Service Medals, The Bosnian Service Medal, and the U.S. Navy Bingham Memorial Award for Management Excellence. For questions, comments or concerns regarding news items, or to find out how to announce campus events via Darton News, please contact the Office of Institutional Advancement.
