Darton State College Now Offers Certificate in Spanish for Health Care Professionals Online

ALBANY – Today’s health care professionals must adapt to meet the challenges that come with the growing demographic diversity in the health care population. In aneffort to help break language barriers in the health care industry, Darton State College now offers a Certificate in Spanish for Health Care Professionals fully online.

In an industry where communication is key, Darton’s new certificate program will help health care professionals communicate properly to their Spanish-speaking clients. According to the 2010 Census, the Hispanic population accounted for more than half the growth of the total population in the United States between 2000 and 2010. Additionally, in 2004, Georgia was the third fastest-growing state in the country for Hispanics.

Classes for the new Certificate in Spanish for Health Care Professionals are all online and consist of three, 3-hour course completed in one year. The certificate is for individuals working or majoring in health care related fields. Benefits of the certificate include:

  • provides Spanish language application in the context of health care related professions;
  • offers basic communicative ability in listening, speaking, reading, and writing;
  • facilitates communication with Spanish-speaking clients; and,
  • educates healthcare professionals in aspects of Hispanic culture.

Registration for the Certificate in Spanish for Health Care Professionals is August 14 and classes begin on August 15. For more information please call, Genevieve Breedon, Foreign Languages Coordinator, at 229-317-6876.
