Darton's Director of Music Receives Patriotic Employer Award
Dr. Jeff Kluball, Associate Professor of Music at Darton State College, was recently presented with the Patriotic Employer Award from the Employers Support for the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). The award was given in recognition of Dr. Kluball and Darton State College's continued support of employees in the military.
"This is a tremendous honor for me to be presented with this award," said Dr. Jeff Kluball. "The College and I are proud to support our service members in any way that we can. It is because of their sacrifices that we are able to enjoy our freedoms."
This prestigious award was based on a nomination from fellow faculty member, Dr. Christopher Walker. Dr. Walker is a part-time teacher at Darton and a Technical Sergeant in the Air Force National Guard. He also serves in the 572nd Air Force Band, one of only five Air National Guard Bands in the US.
In his nomination Dr. Walker stated, "Dr. Kluball has always been very supportive of my work with the National Guard. He is very helpful in rearranging my Darton work schedule around my military obligations when necessary. As a father of a son in the Army Infantry, Dr. Kluball understands how the military works and really takes a vested interest in what I am doing."
Michael Bryant, ESGR Southeast Regional Chair, presented the award to Dr. Kluball on August 2. During the award presentation, President Sireno also confirmed the College's support for the men and women of the National Guard and Reserve by signing a Statement of Support for the Guard and Reserve. In signing a Statement of Support employers and organizations pledge to recognize, honor and enforce the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-Employment Rights Act (USERRA); appreciate the values, leadership and unique skills service members bring to the workforce and will encourage opportunities to hire Guardsmen, Reservists and Veterans; and recognize and support our country’s service members and their families.
ESGR is a Department of Defense organization established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Guard and Reserve component members and their civilian employers. Today, ESGR operates through a network of thousands of volunteers throughout the 50 states, District of Columbia, Guam-CNMI, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
Darton State College, a member of the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges, is proud to be an approved institution for both Tuition Assistance and Veterans Affairs educational benefits, including the Post 9/11 GI Bill. Darton has also been recognized as a Military Friendly School for 2012 by GI Jobs magazine.
