Darton to Hold Veterans Day Ceremony

November 08, 2012

ALBANY - Darton State College's Office of Military and Adult Education will be hosting a Veterans Day ceremony on Monday, November 12 at 2:00 p.m. in building B, room 101. The ceremony, titled "Darton Salutes: A Tribute to Our Veterans," will include a keynote address and a reading of the names of those fallen from Georgia during Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF).

Valerie McCarley, Director of Military and Adult Education at Darton State College, said, "We want to honor and thank our veterans for their service." Through this ceremony, we hope to express our sincere gratitude to those who have served and to acknowledge their sacrifices."

Darton State College will also include the National Roll Call in its Veterans Day ceremony. The National Roll Call honors American service men and women by hosting simultaneous ceremonies across the nation. Campus and community volunteers at 93 colleges and universities in 37 states across the nation will read the names of the fallen.

The Remembrance Day National Roll Call is sponsored nationally by the Veterans Knowledge Community (VKC) of NASPA Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education. NASPA is a 12,000-member association for the advancement, health, and sustainability of the student affairs professionals. The VKC mission is to advocate for best practices to help student veterans transition to college and succeed.
