The Darton College Foundation Awards First Lifetime Service Award At Annual Gala
May 14, 2013
ALBANY - On Friday, May 10, the Darton College Foundation held its annual gala - An Unforgettable Night - to raise money for student scholarships. In addition to great food and entertainment, the Foundation presented the very first Darton State College Lifetime Service Award to Mr. Joe Powell.
Mr. Powell joined the Foundation when it began in 1973, at which time it was still Albany Junior College. As a Foundation trustee, he has served in many capacities, including chairman of the executive board. Mr. Powell also chaired the housing committee, which played a very instrumental role in bringing on-campus housing to Darton State College. Because of his efforts, Mr. Powell was able to bring community leaders together to help make Darton's vision of offering on-campus housing a reality.
Glenn Tennyson, chairman of the Darton College Foundation, presented the Lifetime Service Award to Mr. Powell saying that there is probably no one who loves this College [Darton] more than him.
Many attended Friday night's gala not only to help raise money for Darton student scholarships, but also to honor Mr. Joe Powell and his continued service to Darton State College.
"Joe Powell is the trustee's trustee. He is an exemplary trustee and he sees more than most, all the good that Darton State does for our students and our community. Joe truly believes in Darton State College," said Darton State College President, Dr. Peter Sireno.
"Darton State College could not have a bigger cheerleader in their corner than Joe Powell," said Deidra Langstaff, Darton College Foundation trustee.
