DSC Student Qualifies for ACUI National 9-Ball Collegiate Championships
June 24, 2013
ALBANY- Derek Morris, a current student at Darton State College, has qualified for the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) 9-Ball Championships. The two-day competition will be held June 28-29 in Tempe, AZ at Arizona State University. Morris will compete for the national title against more than 60 of the best college players who represent more than 40 colleges and universities.
Morris received an invitation to the national tournament after winning the Campus Tournament at Darton in February; and then placing in the top three at the Southeast Regional ACUI 9-ball Championships, hosted this past year by Georgia Tech.
Morris, a sophomore at Darton, is a pre-engineering major and stays very active on campus. In addition to participating in intramurals, he is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, an international honor society, and has made the Dean’s List.
ACUI collegiate championships are designed to contribute to the social, physical, mental, and emotional development of students and professionals. ACUI further promotes its core value of community through its recreation and leisure activities program. This is one of the longest running programs in the Association's history. ACUI regions conduct a 9-ball qualifying tournament typically in the February or March time frame. Darton State College is an Institutional Member of ACUI.
