Shalonda A. Heard
Shalonda Heard began working at Darton State College in September 2012. Prior to coming to Darton State College, she received her bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Valdosta State University and a certificate in management from Darton State College.
Ms. Heard began her career at Darton as a Grant Coordinator. As her professional career expanded in additional directions, she was named Interim Director of Grants, Interim Equal Opportunity Officer, and Director of Grants. Serving as the Director of Grants, she supports, promotes, and facilitates the acquisition of external grant funding to support institutional programs, projects, research, and related endeavors.
Impassioned and driven to play a role in the success of the college and region, Ms. Heard spends her spare time working toward that goal. She serves as the Darton Dance Program house/box office manager, campus beautification liaison, Keep-Albany Dougherty Beautiful board member, American Red Cross of Southwest Georgia board member, and Thronateeska Heritage Center and Flint RiverQuarium grant consultant.
In all of these roles, Ms. Heard continually demonstrates her deep commitment to the region and community college education. In recognition of her efforts she was honored in 2015 by the Albany Herald and named one of Southwest Georgia’s Forty under 40.
