Steve Scott
Hailing from St. George, UT, Steve Scott is happy to make Southwest Georgia his new home, serving as Assistant Professor of Vocal Music at Darton College since 2010. His course load includes College Choir, Vocal Ensemble, Music Theory, Group Voice, and Applied Voice Lessons. Steve earned a Bachelor of Music Education from Utah State University and a Master of Arts in Vocal Pedagogy and Master of Music in Choral Conducting from The Ohio State University. While at OSU, he studied voice with Karen Peeler and Loretta Robinson and conducting with Hilary Apfelstadt and Robert Ward. Steve also completed the Singing Health Specialization, an interdisciplinary program focusing on practical healing and health maintenance of the singing voice. The combination of these three academic areas, Vocal Pedagogy, Choral Conducting, and Singing Health, culminated in the formation of the Victory Choir, a choir for cancer survivors, which he conducted. Because of his efforts in this area, Steve received the Helen Swank Voice Teaching and Research Laboratory Award. He is an active member of ACDA, MENC, and NATS.
When not at Darton, Steve enjoys spending time with his wife Jaylene and daughter Lydia, the loves of his life. They love to read, travel, and hike.
