Brian M. Perkins
Brian began working at Darton College in July 2010. Prior to teaching at Darton College he was Mass Media Instructor for Newport News Public Schools in Virginia and Sports Director for WFXL-Fox 31 in Albany, Georgia. He also has experience as a sports writer, after serving as a freelance writer for the Albany Herald. You may recognize Brian's voice as a former Public Address Announcer for the South Georgia Peanuts and South Georgia Wildcats. Brian has a Bachelor's degree in Television-Radio-Film from Syracuse University.
Brian has had the pleasure of covering three NCAA National Championship teams, interviewing three members of the basketball Hall of Fame, and reporting at the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. Brian has covered sporting events up and down the east coast, including the Jimmie V Classic at Madison Square Garden, the Georgia-Florida game in Jacksonville, and Sprint Cup Series races in Atlanta.
Brian is excited about the new Broadcast Journalism program at Darton College. When not teaching class, he enjoys freelance reporting--especially on Sports. He also enjoys spending time as a media critic, although his lovely wife Elizabeth is tired of that particular hobby.
At Darton College, Brian is in charge of recruiting for the new Broadcast Journalism program. He also assists with the Cavalier Attitude -- Darton College's student newspaper --and also coordinates several on-campus television productions.
In his downtime, Brian is a hockey fanatic. Brian is a life-long Washington Capitals fan, and has recently found his love for the St. Louis Blues. Brian enjoys college football--especially watching the Alabama Crimson Tide and his alma mater, the Syracuse Orange. He also enjoys watching Syracuse's college basketball and lacrosse programs. Brian is happily married. He and Elizabeth have four pets--including a pair of cats: Vivi, Strappey McGhee, and a pair of dogs: Deja and Ollie.
