Associate Degree Option

Teacher Education (Physical Education)

Students choose this degree option for careers teaching the performance and understanding of basic motor skills, games, and lifelong fitness activities as well as the social and personal skills related to participating in physical activities to pre-kindergarten through grade-twelve children. Physical education majors who plan to work in public schools should complete a bachelor’s degree program and pass state teacher certification exams.

Career opportunities with an undergraduate degree are limited. According to the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD), graduates may enter full-time positions upon completion of a bachelor’s degree, while some may have to find part-time work until full-time positions open. Some physical educators choose to coach, officiate, or drive a school bus as well to become more marketable. Graduate studies would be advantageous to students within this discipline.
