Darton State College Health & Physical Education Division | Associate Degree Option - Exercise Science
Associate Degree Option
Exercise science is a relatively new field that, according to the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE), has emerged in response to concerns about the lack of physical activity, obesity and increased risks of developing diseases facing most of America today. Exercise Science is the study of immediate and long term effects of physical activity on the body.
Career opportunities upon completion of a bachelor’s degree include corporate fitness, agency fitness (YMCA, YWCA, etc.), health clubs, managers of fitness facilities, personal trainers, and strength and conditioning coaches. Most undergraduate programs in this discipline ideally send graduates to professional schools in physical therapy, sports medicine, chiropractic, occupational therapy and exercise physiology. Darton State College students seeking careers in athletic training are also encouraged to study exercise science before transferring.
