The Darton College PREP program is an
academic support and outreach initiative designed to help students and their parents make
timely, informed decisions that will adequately prepare young people for their higher
education and career goals.
This program is part of a
four-school alliance, Alliance for Scholastic Enrichment Pre-College Programs
(ASEP), that
includes Albany State University, Bainbridge College, and Georgia Southwestern State
University.
The primary goal is to help students in at-risk situations get on
the right track for admission into the state's public colleges, universities, and
technical schools, thereby broadening the choices they will have after graduating from
high school. This year-round intervention program is the vehicle to address the special
needs of these students by providing them with the capability to take advantage of the
unique education opportunities available in Georgia. Darton's program targets seventh and
eighth grade students in area school systems. After-school programs, summer day campus,
middle school visitation days, and school-site visits are used to provide academic
enrichment and readiness activities and promote among students, parents, teachers,
administrators, and counselors, an awareness of the University System's admission
standards to be instituted in 2001. |
