COMPUTER PROGRAMMER
Computer programmers write programs and other instructions that enable computers to perform specific tasks. There are two types of programmers -- those concerned with applications (the final products of computer operations) and those who develop systems (programs that tell the computer what to do).
Work Activities:
- Analyze and study data on problems
- Prepare plans or flow charts to solve problems
- Write detailed coded instructions for computers to follow
- Test programs to ensure they respond as anticipated
- Write instructions to guide workers during production runs
- Make reports of program development
Skills and Aptitudes:
- Communicate technical information
- Write reports, record procedures and explain ideas
- Organize ideas and data
- Organize time and work under pressure
- Visualize objects from drawings and pictures
- Knowledge of programming techniques and limitations
- Work with one or more programming languages
- Excellent numerical and verbal skills
