FORESTER
Foresters work to achieve the best use of forest land and resources for economic, social, and recreational purposes.
Areas of Specialization:
- Forest Ecologists
- Foresters
- Silviculturists
- Wood Technologists
Work Activities:
- Gather and analyze information about the forest to formulate policies and programs involving forestation, timber sales, recreational use, flood and insect control, and soil erosion
- Inform the public of management and protection programs
- Make maps and survey roads and trails
- Supervise staff
- Plan and direct projects
Skills and Aptitudes:
- Good verbal and written skills
- Strong mathematics and science abilities
- Work independently with minimum supervision
- Observant and capable of visualizing objects from aerial photographs and maps
- Ability to manage projects and work with people
- Make sound management decisions based on a critical analysis of data
- Ability to prepare and read maps and aerial photographs
