FORESTER

Foresters work to achieve the best use of forest land and resources for economic, social, and recreational purposes.

Areas of Specialization:

• Forest Ecologists

Work Activities:

• Gather and analyze information about the forest to formulate policies and programs involving forestation, timber sales, recreational use, flood and insect control, and soil erosion
• Inform the public of management and protection programs
• Make maps and survey roads and trails
• Supervise staff
• Plan and direct projects

Skills and Aptitudes:

• Good verbal and written skills
• Strong mathematics and science abilities
• Work independently with minimum supervision
• Observant and capable of visualizing objects from aerial photographs and maps
• Ability to manage projects and work with people
• Make sound management decisions based on a critical analysis of data
• Ability to prepare and read maps and aerial photographs
