LIFE SCIENTIST

Life scientists study living organisms and their relationship to the environment to increase knowledge and to solve problems.

Areas of Specialization:

  • Biochemistry

  • Biophysics

Work Activities:

  • Conduct research to increase knowledge of living organisms
  • Use results of research to develop new medicines, increase crop yields, and improve the environment
  • Plan, write and administer research projects and technical publications
  • Work as a consultant, inspector, sales person, service technician, teacher

Skills and Aptitudes:

  • Apply scientific principles to problems
  • Knowledge of laboratory and field techniques
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of commercial software packages and computer programming
  • Strong science and mathematics abilities
  • Visualize objects form pictures and descriptions and be able to see slight differences in objects
  • Perform precise work and make decisions based on facts
  • Work as part of a team or work independently
