VETERINARIAN

Veterinarians treat injuries and attempt to prevent, control and cure animal diseases.

Areas of Specialization:

  • Livestock Inspectors
  • Poultry Veterinarians
  • Veterinarians

Work Activities:

  • Test animals and herds for disease
  • Prescribe drugs, give injections, set broken bones, dress wounds, perform surgery and administer other forms of treatment to animals
  • Advise about the care and breeding of animals
  • Consult, teach, research and/or conduct inspections for government agencies
  • May specialize in treating individual species
  • May prevent or control animal diseases which can be passed to humans
  • May write technical materials or produce commercial products
